Things I Don'T Understand

There are things I don't understand
And would really like to know
Such as why they call it rush hour
And you move so freakin' slow

How come you get a learner's permit
To get a license to drive a car
But they don't give one for a marriage license
Now I think that's going too far

Why do they put deer crossing signs up
Do you believe there is really any need
In all my years of driving
I've never met a single deer who can read

I was reading a map in the park
And it definitely astonished me so
It had a red X that said you are here
And I was wondering how they know.

The Hot Brazilian

She said, "It was fun yesterday and hot!"
"I made love with a Brazilian all day!"
Her friend said, "Shut up, I hope you did not!"
"How many is a Brazilian anyway?"

Sweet and Salty -Libra Tale

LIBRA TALE

Sweet and Sour hectic sign
Love me, trust me, the stars align
   Balance of truth and dare
Good and Evil, full of care
Blind when it comes to blood line

Northern Suburbia

Your love is real
the love you feel.
Your love is great
the love you make.
Your records are on fire
its your desire.
Take me out tonight
and go wild and crazy,
or be fat and lazy.
So I played some Doors
and saw some whores.
So I said goodbye
and they all must die, fool.
So dig my guts
and eat my brain
and then go insane.
I don't
Care I love it
so forget it, Punk!

Enigma's Calling

Extraordinary, I am
Craving for unusual thoughts
Endless exploration without boundary
Understanding the gift I shouldn't fought

Invisible drawings in my mind
Playing with the words in my head
My passion
The food of my soul

I feel so lucky
The random thoughts
A lifetime companion
A self esteem builder
A goal planner
Be my forever life saver

I write more
I talk less
I want to please
I chose to bore

What tickles me the most
Is to know what I'm for
Thinking is my love
When my mind goes empty
That's when I hate

My day dreaming lust
Organizing things in my mind
Playing roles of simulation
Where images of art is my vision
And words of attitude is my heart

Why People Lie

Some people lie for no reason at all
While many lie with a great reasoning
Most lie to safeguard and be saved from fall
Others let themselves be blamed for speaking.

Few lie for a good acceptable cause
And many just construct a cause to lie
Its not always the flip side of truth's pause
Sometimes a lie stands on its own clean tie.

For lying is a complex social act
More than a habit but a human trait
To be a well functional artefact
Protecting expectations truth can't wait.

Lies cover up another truth to suit
Or made to create a new set of truth.

Shameful Morning

not sure how she got here
only know she needs to leave

underneath the stranger
my arm numb; asleep,
mouth a desert.
a hundred dead cigarettes dance my tongue dry

princess of night
exposed by light.
get me out of this;
another dreaded morning mess.

bed broken
along with my will.
I swore never again;
the lie is half the thrill.

Confusion Reigns

A Joint Poem by Brian Johnston and Abekah Emmanuel

She said:
Did you really understand what I just said?

He said:
If I didn't understand my misunderstanding was so complete that I did not understand that I did not understand!

She said:
Amusingly amazing misunderstanding!

He said:
So you understand my confusion? I am so glad that someone does! You know dear this could be a poem. It clears up so many things!

Aside to reader:
And might even contribute to my getting some... peace that is, a little later on. [Wink, Wink]

Hello my friend,
Hope all is well
This is your bud,
'Ol tom bell
You might wish
To read this poem
"Bad Day at the Eyedoctors"
A true tom tale
And shows what a fool I be
So check it out,
And you'll see!

Cherry Lips

Her scent is so alluring as she hits on a guy in a bar. Cherry ripe kisses so adoring - with his cash she could go far. Scarlet talons now are clawing at his back as they tumble into bed. But when he takes her stockings off... he discovers she's a he instead! 30th October 2016

Humpty Dumpty

Fat egg you're a mess!
I can't believe the scramble where you fell
There's slime dirt and yellow on your shell
Impossible, I must confess

With all the king's horses
           all the king's men
and the ovaries of a hen
It seems quite ridiculous
      a job so meticulous

The One Sock Phase

In the factory where he worked
When he noticed, he had to scoff
Several men were walking around
With one sock on and one sock off

He had seen them with earplug strings
Hanging out of their mouth, a phase
As he walked into the restroom
He thought, "Never in all my days!"

On the "Throne" he saw no paper
He thought he should watch who he mocks
When the guy in the next stall said,
"You'll have to use one of your socks!"

No Choice!

I hate it when I'm
       told to do
This damn thing
       or that.

And I hate it
When I don't do it
And am made to
      feel a rat!

So what is it that
      I hate much more
To do or not to do?

The former is within myself
      The latter within me, too!

Wait, He Said What

When she found out she would be working late
She asked if he could pick her up at eight
Attempted romance
Drew looks askance
When he said, "It'll be hard to bear the wait!"

Do I Or Don'T I

Give me something smart to say
Or maybe something dumb
What should I do, Should I stay?
Or should I go, ho hum?

Nothing seems to come together
Nothing seems to flow
Should I brush my teeth right now?
Or watch the Oprah show?

Why are some days really nutty
And others just plain boring
Today I'm going to flip a coin
If it's tail, I'm going bowling.

Shady Sadie

There once was a lady named, Sadie.
Whose past was a little shady.
She once shot a man.
Who did not understand.
Difference of no and maybe.

Has Our World Gone Mad

I’m confused
At times bemused
By the turn society’s taking,
Sexuality so complex
Gender needing further context
All my preconceptions breaking.

Are cows good
On this we brood
Carbon footprint the new quandary,
Should we fly
Or cycling try
A simpler world I recall fondly.

Left or Right
The current fight
Politicians all grandstanding,
Little caring
Overbearing
Of our hearts and minds demanding.

To take part
Is quite an art
Every word now needing measure,
Opinions rue
So fast to sue
No surprise the past I treasure.

Vestigial Vagabond

The tail of a beaver, bill of a duck
yet they pull it off with honor and pluck
made with spare parts
they capture our hearts
with DNA tests that read WTF

An Aging Poet

For poetry, I'll need to see
Let the battle of switches begin
From the wall switch to the light
"Which one is it?" never ends!

An aging poet, past my prime
My memory now is not acute
In truth it has been in decline
Ever since I popped the chute!

What's next, will I forget my pants?
So many lapses, cause me to fret
A date, a word,a meal, a hat
Who knows what next, I might..........?

Etc

I sometimes sit and ponder,
What is over yonder.
When I get to yonder,
I sometimes sit and ponder,
As to what is over yonder.
When I get to yonder,
I sometimes sit and ponder
As to what is over yonder___

Who Is Who

If I am I
                       and you are you
                      then I am really I
                      You are really you
                       And we agree on
                          Who is who

                               But if
                         I am not really I
And you are not really you
I am not really I you are not really you
                    And it's anyone's guess
                        As to who is who

So Many Types of Poetry

Since I've been on Poetrysoup
I admit I was taken back
By how many types of poetry
My education seems to lack

Could I make my rhyme a sixette
Or would I be 3 short
If I charged for a freeverse
Would I be forced to abort

How much must I remove
to make my hexaverse diminished
and then do I need more words
before I can be finished

Can I let my Rondeau Redouble
Without too much trouble at first
And must I be affiliated
To attempt a political verse

I guess I'll learn them one at a time
Until then I'll just call them a rhyme
