The Rules For 8x8
Compose eight lines consult your muse
Subject matter is what you choose
Just eight syllables on each line
Follow these rules and you'll be fine
Pretty pictures you do not need
Your words only so please take heed
Only plain text no fancy fonts
And that you'll find is what she want's.

HIPPOPOTOMONSTROSEQUIPPEDALIOPHOBIA IS A VERY LONG WORD
I have just discovered the real definition
of irony
The word Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
What a lengthy word to describe the fear of long
words - how ironic!

I'Ve Caught a Cold
Sneeze, sneeze, sneeze, sneeze
Oh I wish my sore throat would ease
Razor blades of pain are shredding my throat
And I’ve got so much snot I could launch a boat
My nose is as red as Rudolph’s and it’s oh so sore
I’m feeling achy and miserable this cold I simply do abhor
My temperature is high – I’m having a hot flush
I look a terrible mess; my hair is in need of a brush
Guess I will have to smile when hubby says I’m ‘hot’
Good job he loves me whether I look a wreck or not

I Drew a Blank
I picked up my pen and tried hard to write,
words simply failed me and I drew a blank.
The harder I tried the worse it became
Where are the syllables when I need them?
Not a limerick or rhyme will appear …
my muse has gone on her spring holiday -
when she will return I have no idea!
I’m sad, how can I enter a contest
that I have little chance of placing in...
Oh well, I guess its another N/A
to add to my expanding collection.
N/A in contest finalised on 6/2/16

Contradictionary
I feel that I've not done,
Everything that I should do.
I've not found the sun,
Nor what rain,
May have to prove.
Every word is dry,
With a fighting attitude,
Trying to deny,
What I'd truly say to you.
I've tried to be the kind,
To write,
And please your very eyes.
Yet there comes a time,
When my muse,
Runs and hides.
Nay! This game of pain,
Is not what I ordain.
Peace will be sustained,
On the day,
I write again.

Some fellas and some gals are just plumb mean
and sadly some are deranged and some scream.
Seems like a certain syndrome

What the Fibro
My feet are always aching, like I've been on them all day
my muscles keep on twitching, my back keeps giving way
the migraines keep me tired and the Fibro too
I'm seriously lacking energy, but I've got so much to do.
The list keeps getting longer, I've lost my train of thought
now a daily struggle, I wish my pain was naught
I'm really good at hiding, exactly how I feel
though my tank is nearly empty, I need my bod to heal.
My skin is all darn prickly, like I'm poked with pins
I'm lacking motivation, I really need some wins
Sleeps another factor, don't get much of that
which leads to inactivity and bloody body fat.
WTF!

A Better Way
There must have been a better way.
There's just no way around it.
Family and friends kept saying so;
But, somehow, I've never found it.
Honestly, I really never looked,
Thought life was treating me well;
But to hear those folks tell it,
My life's a living Hell
Always fraught with bad decisions...
In their opinions, I should say.
I'm sure they all wonder how
I make it through each day.
They could by right, I guess;
Although I must say,
If they were all as happy as I,
They would think they'd found a better way.

Slap In the Face
Just a cold, hard slap in the face
Is Daylight Savings Time to morning place
Winter’s drive is dark and cold
Headlights searching for deer in the road
But March brings the sun like golden ripe fruit
To brighten my chores and morning commute
For just a while I pretend it will last
Try to keep winter’s veil in the past
But then the inevitable Monday comes
Because someone decided this silly thing should be done
I’ve changed the clock the night before
So once again only darkness awaits out my door
For another month
I keep the dark pace
Whoever thought of this needs a slap in the face!

Aging Woes
Forgetful moments, hair thinning,
Memories fading, ears ringing,
Hands wrinkled, boobs drooping,
Knees weak, words looping,
Silver top, hot flushing,
Bladder weakness, loo rushing,
Bones tired, sleeping less,
Couldn’t care, such a mess,
Eyes blurring, tummy tucks,
Getting older, really sucks.

Resolutions
Last year I resolved to lose some weight
To be more careful in filling my plate
It lasted three days
Then back to old ways
Next year I’ll just accept my so rotund fate….
I don’t think New Year’s resolutions are such a bad thing
It’s like planting ideas and thoughts to bloom in the spring
If even small changes are made, who could ask for more
But forget that weight thing: lose that one before reaching the door...
Forgive the mixture of forms, I couldn't resist.

The Fatboy Poem
Come get a drink and bite. Oh don't you miss it
We've got plenty of sausage and plenty of biscuit
Or you can have syrup on a giant pancake
After wash it down with a chocolate milkshake
Then later for lunch
We're going to munch
Fix yourself a sandwich with smoked ham
Or pull out a big can of smoked turkey spam
But now because of the way I feel
I've got to go and cook another meal

Duvet Day
It's warm beneath this duvet.
Outside it's cold and grey.
I wish I could roll over
And stay in bed today.
There's things I should be doing,
But if you'd let me choose
I'd stay beneath this duvet
And keep on pressing snooze

INSTRIDE
My voice is shallow and cannot be heard.
I see with refinement even in crepuscular.
Desultory are my thoughts unraveled,
But my spirit is fulfilled with exuberant joy.
I drag my feet in a halcyon way.
A visceral mocking and a cynical mocker I am.
The snoring, as I travel on feet, was sonorous.
Penumbra was beneath the trees.
An opulent within his aristocratic jealousy,
However, I do not speak of these things.

Inflated prices
For twenty four hours
I don’t need a card
Or blood red roses
On Valentine's Day
Save your money
Say you love me
It costs nothing
But means the world
I cannot
Put a price
On your love
I love
You for

IN-FLEW-ENZA!
This was not my today's agenda,
Hankies for snuffles my addenda,
Here I rest, moribunda!
Wintry weather down under,
Suppose it is not so bad,
Bed rest to be had,
Not in the rat race,
Cosy bed today's place,
Definitely not my today's agenda,
IN-FLU-ENZA!

Man With No Morals
Ask me not where, when, why or how
Because if I knew I’d be president now
Wait a minute, presidents don’t know that too
I never said they did, but I have morals. Do you?

National Hero
Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal is multi-talented
What he wrought as leader, linguist, eye doctor, and novelist can't be counted
Along comments about his religious convictions and faith*-tenacity
Besides his affairs with varied ladies of pleasing personality.

The Best Things In Life Are Free
The best things in life are free!
Someone is just got to be kidding me,
Because the best thing in winter is heat;
But, just try to get it free, I entreat.
The best things in life are free!
Someone is just got to be kidding me.
When you are hungry, you must buy food.
If you don't have the money, you don't eat
and that's clearly understood.
The best things in life are free!
Someone is just got to be kidding me.
What is nicer than owning a lovely home;
But, try to do it without money and you will
stand totally alone.
Whenever the best things in life become truly free;
And no one is just kidding me,
As far as I can see,
There will be no such word as "POVERTY!"

My Tribute To Anne-Lise, Poet Destroyer and Skat
When I joined soup they rolled out the welcome mat
Anne-Lise, Poet Destroyer and her lovely sister Skat
I felt so excited that my poem had been read -
As the idea of posting had filled me with dread!
They all work so hard to build a community
To welcome new people who write poetry
There are many other people I would love to mention
But I’ve only ten lines; Andrea won’t give an extension!
Thank you to all who have helped me on my way
And with luck I may write a decent poem one day!

Of Hyperbole
This house of hyperbole,
Does defy credulity,
Let's all exaggerate,
Aim to manipulate,
"I shall love you infinitely!"
Sounds a normal hyperbole,
"I never got over you!"
Am I a drama mama too?
You want me and need me,
But you don't love me,
Is that called two out of three?
Or more hyperbole?
Why answer such questions?
I'm always open to your suggestions,
As usual for you and me,
In this house of hyperbole............
