Swimming the Dark Sea

Such pain, such pain this poor heart's born,
with so little pleasures in return,
much gifts it has bestowed, unearned
now, here it lies; morose, forlorn

Alas, alas, what curse has brought this
wrath upon such an innocent soul,
its spirit broken by this tragic role
like Atlas or more so, Sisyphus

Fall down again from feet to knees
to plumb the dark and dreary depths,
the length and seemingly infinite breadth
of this warm, salty sea of self-pity

These murky waters, born from tears
these waves and tides that chop and churn,
these silent sobs leave one to yearn
for one small thing; a tender ear

The Swimming Hippie

What a sight, out in the water
A hippie and his youngest son
Far away from city havoc
Just swimming and splashing for fun!

Quite suddenly the tide rolled out,
And took them, it seemed so unfair
Fortunately a life guard saw,
And jumped in to rescue the pair!

He managed to save the young boy
And thus became his biggest fan
But he couldn't save the hippie
Because he was, "Too far out man!"

Swimming Lesson

Ancient Egyptians worshiped idols
Their slaves, the Jews, did too

So, to the Lord the angels complained
On Your holiness do You desire a stain

Why save these two groups of idolaters
Drown them both in the sea several kilometers

Yet the angels didn't get their way
For ill-treating Jews, Egypt paid...

Sure, the Lord says pray only to Him
But if you don't ~ Make sure you can swim

Swimming In Norway

Climate warming is bunkum some say. But I wonder what happened one day, when a stark naked horde swam and splashed in a fjord in mid-winter in balmy Norway.
