The Writer's Prayer
I like to think
that poetry
has intrinsic value
above and beyond
the actual craft…
That the origins
of poetry’s meter
and rhyme precede
each preliminary
draft…
That something, perhaps
even spiritual, transcends
the fore-and-aft…
And when the writer
thinks to scuttle
a work, as often
inherently we do,
always
may there be angels
floating him
a Literary-raft….

We christen thee Titanic
unsinkable, gigantic.
but lack of options cost her.

Typically Luke Poem 7 - a Sea Voyage
Luke got a letter from school
A sea voyage they had planned
Luke was really excited
As you may well understand
On the day everyone had a wonderful time
But someone was staying below deck
Feeling really ill, should have taken a pill
And was looking like a wreck
Yes while others were enjoying the sites
Luke was nowhere to be seen
Still down below and wouldn't you know
Turning a strange shade of green
It should have been something to treasure
But this was a school trip to hell
I don't think in future he'll bother with trips
Because I'm afraid Luke don't travel too well.

Gallantly On a Galactic Voyage
Galactic marvel; Gallant Galahad to swimming gala.
Gallery of sirens lying galore; a sexy display.
On bed of Galax, a living Galatea, he sees Hallah.
A tactical Galago, he jumps wooing the gal to play.
In Galician, her Lactose voice: “Bring me Venus.”
Her wish send him in alacrity to the galaxy.
Over Milky Way and planets, he flies a genius,
Defying Big Bear and the Pleiades in vanity.
His tic, he mocks Galileo he meets high above.
He dances proudly around the galactic plane.
Gall he shows to grab the great Goddess of love,
none but Hallah;“Galah!”from her throne she mocks in disdain!

Bon Voyage
She thought she was really hip
the beauty queen of the ship,
but she made my life hell
so she went over the rail
hope she likes a cool wet dip.

Voyage To the New World
Apple pie and coffee on the sofa
with violins, poetry, art, passion
and the small table of heart’s desire,
four eyes and wouldn’t I, or you and we
sense how it rests inside
covered with hammered rust:
consider the beauty:
a key in the forged gate!
Attracted to discover weird insides:
her and the other thing. Or see four hands,
or three when one is stuck, two if entwined,
start eating skin and bones. Pure poetry!

To See the Sea You See
Two seamen sought to sail the sea
to see the seething sea, you see.
This could have happened in B.C.
but no — they saw the modern sea.
In 2023 A.D.
the sea was like the sea B.C.
which is unlike the CBC
with no connection to the sea
but somewhat like the BBC
which does resemble the B.C.
without the extra C., you see?
I see.

The Vomit Comet
We embarked upon a voyage
across the stormy Irish sea
The ship’s known as the ‘vomit comet’
please don’t throw up if you sit next to me!
I can cope with dirty diapers
and don’t baulk at the sight of blood
but when it comes to dealing with vomit
I’ll confess that I’m no bloody good!

Live On a Lark
Live on a Lark
I learned how to live on a lark
And then did decide to disembark
On a voyage which invariably
Would be just right for you and me.
Laughed and smiled everywhere we went
And as soon as all our money was spent
Upon the sea grew a great big hale
Your and my face started turning pale.
Each formed wave was finally flat
And I started to think off the bat
With her then had to be quite blunt,
To go again we would never want.

For the Finnic Death-goddess Louhi
Louhi Louhi, me gotta go
Louhi Louhi, me gotta go.
Fine little demoness waits for me
Me sail across Pohjola Sea
Me sail dat ship all alone
I never think I go back home.
Oh Louhi Louhi, oh behbee now, me gotta go
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Louhi Louhi, me gotta go.
Three nights and days me sail that sea
Me thinks of Louhi constantly
An on de ship I dream she dare
I smell the sulphur in her hair.
Ohhhh Louhi Louhi, oh no, me gotta go
Yah yah yah yah yah yah
Louhi Louhi, ye mama now, me gotta go
I say, me gotta go.

The Cheese of Euripides
Tingling of tongue sent Euripides
Questing a tastier kind of cheese.
"I found cheddar magical,"
Said this poet tragical,
"Sailing the southern antipodes.”

part of everyday life
while I am sitting here writing to you
people are trying to steal
your car, your house,
your business , your best friends, your reputation,
and your savings,
not to mention your wife
Try not worry too much about it
It is just becoming part of everyday life

Hello Sailor
Sailing solo is unsafe
and it's not much fun
one winds up talking to oneself
before the day is done
but a bad day on the water
or so someone said
beats a good day at the office
(and I would know)
snug in my bunk bed
so gentlemen here's a tip for you
as all good sailors do
(when they want to wee believe you me)
remain seated throughout the performance
when you go to the head (loo) or WC
