Has Our World Gone Mad

I’m confused
At times bemused
By the turn society’s taking,
Sexuality so complex
Gender needing further context
All my preconceptions breaking.

Are cows good
On this we brood
Carbon footprint the new quandary,
Should we fly
Or cycling try
A simpler world I recall fondly.

Left or Right
The current fight
Politicians all grandstanding,
Little caring
Overbearing
Of our hearts and minds demanding.

To take part
Is quite an art
Every word now needing measure,
Opinions rue
So fast to sue
No surprise the past I treasure.

Be Still

Just be still

            be

still my beating heart

my beating heart

don't beat so loud

so the sound does

not depart

                   please

 don't give me away

it has to

             be my secret

                     you

       can not give me away

please be quiet, just keep it

                           still

for some of us don't feel

 just be still

even though my heart

is real just be still

Forever a Fool

This is too hard

I don’t want to do it

There is simply no way

For me to get through it

Though, often, we confuse

What is hard with what stimulates

We don’t lack the ability

Rather the time that it takes

If we do not practice

Reform what is tough

Then nothing we do

Will prepare us enough

So don’t do what is hard

Do not follow this rule

Never stimulate and prepare

Remain, forever, a fool.

Sheepdog Trials

I saw a note pinned up today
that sheepdog trials are underway
I thought, at last, there's justice for the flock
I imagined my fine elocution
as witness for the prosecution
denouncing deeds by doggies in the dock.

Two-leggies might not have the smarts
to see through arcane canine arts
and arrogantly think they are in charge
They're suckered to the masterplan,
believe the wolves are tamed by man,
when really they are free to roam at large.

In court we sheep will have our day
and see the wolves all locked away,
and finally they'll throw away the key;
then celebrate in field and dale;
in years to come they'll tell the tale
of how the woolly ones became the free.

Creaky Bones

Creaky bones, I must be getting old. Creaky bones, But I will not be told. Creaky bones, Those stairs are hard to climb. Creaky bones, I will not moan and whine. Creaky bones, Bending to tie up shoes. Creaky bones, Waiting in those long queues. Creaky bones, Once young, now aging fast. Creaky bones, Soon I’ll have that free bus pass. Creaky bones.

Nothing But Lint

Nothing But Lint Nothing but lint in my pocket. It could be said that I am skint. I did have cash to start the day. But money, no sooner earned, is no sooner spent … they say. Now I sit alone in a diner cafe. Slowly drinking one last black coffee. But hey! What is that on the floor? Near the leg of the table by the door. It's a new penny coin all shiny with glint. Now there is something in my pocket … besides lint.

Of Birds and Bees

Heney Penny spent her money
On a hive of buckwheat honey
But the bees were not so friendly
They chased off poor Heney Penny
Left of her money, she hadn’t any
But of bee stings, she had many
She was doctored by Mcclenny
They were married in Cal Genny
Now her thoughts are full and plenty
On her clutch of four and twenty.

Daylight savings time

Once you get use to it, it is subline

A Limerick To Those Who Can Not Acknowledge the Evolution of Poetry:

You are witnessing a change in tone,
A new piece of the Rosetta Stone...
It may blow your mind
To find your behind
Has fallen quite far from the throne.

Sitting On the Amen Pew

You know there's more to life
than what meets the eye
when you're sitting on the amen pew.

It's the worldly things
that you pass by
When you're sitting on the amen pew.

There's more to church
than just being seen
and when you shout "Amen"
that's what you really mean.

What others may think
just don't mean a thing.
When you're sitting on the amen pew.

My Only Good Poetry

While preparing 1001 soups
For the last night of this year

My only good poetry, ready to win the 1st Prize;
But I dropped it in…Soup.

Garage Sale Special

For sale a bunch of fine unused words, many misspelled
Poet can’t uses them; mind is on strike, the pen has been stilled

These words never used for they never quite seemed to fit
Got them online; advertisement said they were a complete poetry kit

Can’t send them back because I did use a few; the remainder unused
Selling at half price; many are funny words which will leave you amused

Hope Stick

I drop a stick down from the bridge
Into the waters far below
It carries my hopes with it
To see how far my stick will go

I am hoping it will travel far
And bounce upon the eddies
Missing all those obstacles
Going straight and fast and steady

I hope the bends to navigate
In the middle of the flow
To get caught by vegetation
Means there’s nowhere left to go

My stick has now bobbed out of sight
In the sunlight’s bright reflection
I hope to see it soon again
Still going in the right direction

Not all my hopes on this stick rest
Because that would be silly
I have another in my hand
To throw into the Swilly
( Swilly is a river in Donegal Ireland )
