River In Early July

Flowing, sparkling, refreshingly clear
Dipped in my toes, ah yes too cold -just as I feared

Mosquitoes

We're going to step outside
Where mosquitoes will surely bite
They really make you itch,
And with a lot of might,
They hold on really tight
It's hard to put them in sight
But if you slap
     and do it just right
You'll be free
     at least until tomorrow night

School's Out In July

I
simply
loathe July!
School vacations
are expensive times -
kids want entertaining
thank goodness for summer camps!
Travel and hotel costs rocket.
My kids get bored and start arguing -
I just can’t wait until term time begins!!!

Can You Buy a Cherry Pie

Headline: President Biden tours orchard, says he came for the cherry pie. July 3, 2021

Can you buy a cherry pie
Joey Boy, Joey Boy?
Can you buy a cherry pie
Uncle Joey?

I can buy a cherry pie
Fast as an, ah, you know the thing can wink its eye.

I'm an old man
And cannot find my note card.

Vanity Flare

Beneath the hot Summer sun,
Bathed in pools of sweat.
Cooking of my skin begun,
And it wasn't noon yet.

I felt my forehead fry,
And my whole body quiver.
In the heat of July,
It was baking my liver.

I hoped for a cloud,
And prayed for a drizzle.
I even shouted out loud,
But it continued to sizzle.

After two to three hours,
Had to rethink my plan.
Crusty by blistering powers,
Was no way to tan.
