Humour Can Cover Up Sadness

Humour is sometimes used to cover up sadness To deal with events that interfere with our gladness Our body's defence To protect us against Depression when it bombards us with blackness © Jack Ellison 2015

Sonnet 44 'Nobody Wants a Well, When There Is Sadness'

Nobody wants a well, when there is sadness...
A few drops are enough, to bring on rain!
The world is full, of sorrow, and of madness!
Nobody needs the bottom of the drain...
The purists count emPHASis and sylLABles!
They like to see beans laid out, in a row!
They have no patience with an one, who babbles!
Believe the Sun should not put on a show!
But... we need purists, for they keep us clean!
Demand a higher standard of the lazy!
They state: 'it's not enough to be serene!'
(And unneeded enjambment
Drives 'em crazy!)
But we can only meet their standards, if
The while we write, we're clinging to a cliff!

Sadness of November

Nights bring longer darkness, all I want to do is sleep,

Outside the weather worsens, the snow will soon be deep.

Vines heavy with grapes await to be made into ice wine,

Each headache after, is worth it, from the nectar so sublime.

Making pumpkin pie and sipping apple cider - ACHOO!

Better make chicken soup too, now I’ve got the Flu.

Everything is warning me that old man winter is on its way,

Recognizing this sad reality, oh yes, its also another birthday!

Saccharine Sadness

Susie ate her sugarless serving with a slow spoon
Soggy sobs serenaded
her seven-year-old sister’s
shocked, sensitive ears
Saccharine sadness sampled simply too soon

The Sadness of a Three-Year-Old

The sadness of a three-year-old

Sadness filled the child’s eyes,
The pet lip and the tears,
“It run away, oh why, oh why?”
He asks, as mommy nears.
She picks him up and hugs him so,
Tells him, “Never mind”
Then sets the child’s heart aglow,
When another worm she finds!
